Kami Food Truck Prototype

Overview

This is a group project that was transferred over from the previous IDM215 or User Experience I project. For the present time, it is IDM216 or User Experience II. Nevertheless, in the previous project, I was part of a team that created the Forte Burger prototype design in Figma, but in the current project of IDM216, I was pulled into a different team to take out a different food truck prototype called Kami. In this group project, we were one of four teams tasked to design an usable web app prototype of a foodtruck ordering interface. My overall responsibilities included UX Designer and Data Architect. In this role, I was responsible for conducting UX research to continue improving the Kami prototype with usability scripts, as well as conducting alpha, beta, and final rounds of usability testing, and the Data Architect, for which I will use my computer science skills to analyze data infrastructures and store data files on Team Microsoft's servers.

Our Team

Our group is called Imperfect Roll, and we work as a team to create the functional Kami food truck app prototype, and the pixel character is the one that I draw for my team, as well as helping to change the image to pixel because we share the same attachment in that we like to reference the contact page as a video game that reminds us of the isometric adventure genre. Overall, this is a team of four people to complete the project, including me, and each of them will have two separate roles in our group, which are Project Manager, Coder, UX&UI, and Data Architects.

Context and Challenge

Background/Problem/Goals

This is a 10-week project whereby each team will select which designs from IDM-215 to work on long-term projects. Our team, Imperfect Roll, chose the Kami Korean food truck on campus, and then we were divided into different roles to tackle the range of tasks that needed to be performed one by one within a week before the deadline. Thus, everyone will give tasks based on their role, which in my case is Data Architects and UX Designers. I worked on usability testing and created a new usability script for my team, as well as a formative architecture file on Microsoft Team. It was specialized to help the team have full access to everything they needed from the files, such as correct image or icon size, script document, create/search design, and more.

The challenge will be for each person to pursue two roles, with the benefit that if one person in one role was not available, the person with the same role will backup, allowing the team to survive. Moreover, as a data architect, I make certain that everything is in the file so that the coder or UI designer can access the resource of file for the site, such as the main dish image and icons.

This project's ultimate objective is to convert the Kami food truck app prototype into a mobile web application that allows customers to order meals using dynamic data. Thus, we as Imperfect roll to work together to get experience in the process of creating and achieving our objective to work as a team and comprehend the task we can work on.

Process and Insight

In this section, we have a week to continue compiling the critical path until the end of the 10th week, and during the early stage, we start off with the Alpha version and use the research resource from the previous quarter to create the Kami food truck app. But, I was in charge of creating a usability script for my team as well as a survey to collect user input from usability testing. I continue to create and updating scripts or surveys from Alpha, Beta, and Final to proceed gathering feedback and information for my team, and I'll use that script to take part in usability interview testing virtually using tools like Zoom so that the UI designer and coder can adjust their work in response to user complaints.

Moreover, as a UX designer, I will do user research to determine the user pain point for the Kami food app prototype by virtually meeting with any user. Essentially, I will need to seek and schedule the user who is willing to participate in our usability interview test. Throughout the Testing process, I will spend the majority of my time communicating with users as well as taking notes, and I will utilize the script to know what I'm going to say and questioning on any page of the prototype. Taking note to gather feedback from users as well as asking for permission to record video.

Solutions

When we have completed the user research and usability interview tests, we will need to attend the meeting, which is normally held on Sunday evenings every week. At the meeting, we discuss reports on any critical user feedback as well as any debugged and glitching issues on the prototype. Furthermore, the graph shows how the usability testing participants assessed their satisfaction with the final prototype when I conduct user interviews from the Alpha, Beta, and Final Phases.

Results

As a result of the 10 weeks that we worked on the project as a team, I would say it turned out very well, and I am happy with the functional prototype that I'm honored to do usability testing and user research for my team to help them improve the loose, debugged, and glitching on the prototype that we were unaware of. Overall, gathering feedback as well as participant satisfaction on the survey findings indicates that consumers were primarily happy with the final kami app prototype. Ultimately, my group was able to construct the Kami food app in 10 weeks. I learnt the steps of the process of Usability test interview or research to obtain user feedback was vital so that my team would know what needed to be improved as well as other things such as glitches and debugged.
