VacBuddy Case Study

Overview

This is the individual project for the 10-week animation project. In addition, I received professional guidance that I need to do an animation about me. In general, my role is to keep researching what sort of animation I would be doing. My first step is to continue researching the subjects that inspire me. My inspiration came from the StevenHe YouTube channel. He is a YouTube comedian creator actor.

Context and Challenge

Background

I worked on this assignment as an individual in this class called Anim-115 or Animation 115, which met from January through March. The course taught the fundamentals of After Effects and typographic animation.

Problem

The challenge of this animation is that I must decide how to create an animation about me as I continue searching for inspiration and think of a plan for creating animation. In essence, I decided to design the path step on Figma in order to track the timetable of each step to complete until the end project, especially since I only have 10 weeks to do this project.

Goal

The objective of this project is to make an animation about me and something about video making in order to draw in the attention of the audience within the 10-week deadlines.

Process and Insight

1.Sketch Design

My initial step between weeks 1 and 3 was to continue researching and sketching out what my idea would look like, as well as considering the possibility of video creation for final on week 8-10.

2. Script Writer

The second stage is to write an animation script, shortly after which I may begin recording the video or producing the animation in After Effects. However, I need to run the script through my mind or set a timer to see how long I can talk for. Also, I'll be an actor, which means I'm going to aim to memorize the screenplay like a movie actor.

3. Final Project

My final step is to cross out the script to shorten the time since I discovered it takes too long to talk exactly like the actor on the script and shorten the time to make the film shorter than 4 minutes. Furthermore, the final stage was to check the script that I would be utilizing for the animation between weeks 6-7. In addition, in week 8, I began creating the animation in After Effects. However, in week 4-5, my professional instructed me to create Kinetic Typography, which is a weekly assignment, and I realized this is an excellent opportunity because kinetic animation would fit my storyboard timetable, which would allow me to reduce time management because animation requires a lot of effort.

The Solution

The link to my completed animation project is below, even though the final outcome does not resemble my story board and I actually changed a little bit on the storyboard since I got the idea that I could improve it rather than following the storyboard timeline. For example, instead of starting with an eye gaze, I add another kinetic animation that appears when I snap my finger. Overall, I am satisfied with the outcome since it is precisely what I envisioned from the storyboard. Furthermore, animation consumes a significant amount of time, and I am able to do this since I reused the kinetic typographic animation from weeks 4-5 to enhance the version and allow me to build myself for Vac Buddy video creation.

The Result

Overall, I'd declare this project a success because I was able to finish the After Effect animation in 10 weeks. I outline how I will create the animation in After Effects using a method that includes a storyboard, script, and timeline. I also had a plan around week 3-4, when a professional asked me to create a kinetic typography animation as part of an assignment. This choice allows me to reuse for the final result, which allows me to decrease the amount of work I have to do, but it also requires me to improve even more than before.
